Unfortunately, the Wayback Archive doesn't have an archive of the previous page (where Operation Blessing was promoted) nor does Google; if anyone happened to archive or get a screen capture, please post on here so that it can be recorded for archival purposes.
Will update this more throughout the day. Also, if any of you find any interesting articles, etc. or commentary, feel free to post.
EDIT:
More on blocking of aid: http://tinyurl.com/dvj2p (links to NY Times article)
Apparently morticians are among the people who were (ironically) blocked from entry into NOLA: http://www.zwire.com/site/news.cfm?news
WWL-TV also reports on how FEMA literally sat on sending even the National Guard out for two days: http://www.wwltv.com/local/stories/WWLB
The same blog also reports on how forced evacuations are now authorised. (First they won't let people leave by gunpoint, now if you *don't* leave on the *specific* method that they tell you, they'll shoot you. Go figure.)
Another report from the same blog: Apparently in all that media hubbub on CNN yesterday about evacuees arriving in Washington from NOLA, they neglected to mention that a person attempted to kill himself on one of the flights from Houston (it was diverted to Nashville). (They have already had people protesting that they are being sent away to Kentucky--which is very nearly a day or two of driving from NOLA.)
As I think we all need some good news (hell, after all this bad news, the good news starts to sound better), here's two articles on a happier note:
Southern Decadence, despite the hurricane and curses from the "Avengelical" community, still isn't cancelled: http://www.mysanantonio.com/news/me
Oh, and for that matter, neither is Mardi Gras: http://www.wwltv.com/sharedcontent/nati

That the Swiss were forced to call Isreali military to procure tranasortation for their water purification system, when there is UNUTILIZED transport sitting in the US in unconscionable.
That they have been blocking, what now seems to be FOUR Canadian military/Coast Guard ships (I only know officially of three, two military and one Coast Guard) - who have the training they - who would be FEMA - were supposedly "giving" their own people for days, apparently, before they were sent in to "deal" with the situation, and appear to continually be blocking is again unconscionable. Aren't we supposed to be their "best friend", especially when it comes to situations such as this??
And yes, I'm Canadian. When we had our own Hurricane problems two years ago, the State of Maine sent down power repair crews inhindered. So did Prince Edward Island, Ontario, Quebec, and New Brunswick. While we weren't hit anywhere near as bad (and from my perspective got off really lucky) I don't think we actually hindered anyone who was offering aid.
Their own communications on the ground and use of resources has been less than stellar, if not outright criminal, as appears to be the case, so I suppose if you don't want to appear even more of a bungling ass than you already do in the international communittee, REFUSE AID and make it seem even worse, 'cause gods forbid they get a good first hand look at how botched the situation is. Hell, even use reasons that you have to "consolidate resources" and say you never refused aid in the first place even though international leaders have already said you have. That'll go over well... People will believe that... Yeah, that's the ticket.
MORONS
It would be nice if someone were proactive and went in anyway - or, rather tried to...

September 24th march
I realize most people can't, but anyone who can should try to make it to DC for the September 24th march. It's an antiwar march sponsored by United for Peace and Justice and Act Now to Stop War & End Racism, but it could easily turn into Drown Brown and His Little Boss Too. And wouldn't it have been nice if those Guard troops had been at home?In the Depression, 17,000 WWI veterans (Bonus Army) moved to a tent city (Hooverville) outside DC to demand early payment of a service bonus they'd been promised. Of course they were eventually trampled by the military under orders from the President, but I can't think of a more appropriate place for people to evacuate to.
Just another pissed-off distant reader you don't know who thinks it's a bad time for the Paris Hilton tax cut.
